Salir del atraso en América Latina

Resumen: Este ensayo es una reflexión sobre la situación latinoamericana en contraste con las experiencias exitosas de salida del atraso ocurridas en Europa occidental en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX y en Asia oriental en la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Entre las diferencias críticas más importantes se señalan aquí el retardo estructural de la agricultura, la pobre calidad institucional, el débil sentido de urgencia política y una persistente y aguda segmentación social.

Abstract: This essay presents a reflection on the Latin-American situation in contrast with the successful progress experiences in Western Europe during the second half of XIX century and in Eastern Asia during the second half of XX century. Amongst the most critical differences we underscore the structural agricultural gap, the poor institutional efficiency, the low political priority and a dramatic social segmentation.
